Atlético Madrid head coach Simeone expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance against Alaves and believes that the victory was crucial.
After the match, Simeone said, “The support and company of the fans, the packed atmosphere at home, all of this had a major impact on our players, who passed on this sense of security to us. The team played a great game and was in control until the 70th minute. The team was patient and worked hard to match the attack, Riquelme started to show the level of play we needed and Morata scored a fantastic goal.
“At the end of the first half, we went into the break with a lead. In the second half, the game seemed to get a bit long, Alaves gave us some adjustments and we didn’t handle the final stages of the game very well. The substitutes could have helped us more as they have done in other games, but this time they didn’t.
The match was Simeone’s 450th La Liga game in charge of Atletico.
Said Simeone: “I’m happy, I’ve been working with joy and I’m lucky because I have players who fight for the idea, without them I couldn’t have achieved what I’ve achieved.”
